Coast Communities and Housing

West of Skyline Boulevard lies what is generally referred to as "the Coast" of San Mateo County, which stretches from Pacifica in the north to the Santa Cruz county line in the south. It is home to some of the oldest communities in the county and one of the few places in California where it is less expensive to live near the ocean. A surfer and nature lover’s paradise, the Coasts has one small town and a number of unincorporated areas, ideal for families.

Pacifica

Pacifica is the largest town on the Coast, and with the new Devil’s Slide tunnel, has the easiest access to San Francisco. It has many single family homes, most built after 1960, and many newer condo developments.
Half Moon Bay

South from Pacifica, the towns of Montara, El Granada, and Moss Beach offer small town, coastal life with an easy commute to Peninsula job centers. The southernmost town is Half Moon Bay, a charming older community with a thriving Main Street.
