Western Addition / Hayes Valley / NOPA

The neighborhood known as the Western Addition used to stretch from just west of City Hall to Masonic Avenue where Golden Gate Park Begins. Times change, and so has the neighborhood, which now embraces the art galleries, interior design shops, small boutiques and cafes of Hayes Valley as well as the shops, clubs and restaurants that form the edge of the North of Panhandle (NOPA) area. The Western Addition was long blessed with some of the most affordable housing in the city, but prices can spike around desirable NOPA and Hayes Valley.

Tenderloin

Once considered the worst neighborhood in San Francisco, the Tenderloin thrives as one of the city's most exciting and diverse locales. An influx of Vietnamese families brightened the neighborhood in the 1990s, and a new generation of tech workers is exploring the relatively affordable apartments, incredible cooking, unpredictable bar scenes, independently owned stores and great live music.
