WESTERN NEIGHBORHOODS

Another great choice for families, the western neiborhoods offer access to Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach.

Richmond / Sunset / Parkside

These flat residential neighborhoods border Golden Gate Park and lie in the farthest western portion of the City. The Richmond district is north of the park and the Sunset lies just south of the Park. The weather tends to be a bit foggier than other neighborhoods as the Sunset and Richmond are closer to the Pacific Ocean. These areas are as close to suburbia as one comes in San Francisco and the housing costs are usually less than those neighborhoods farther east. Golden Gate Park, Lincoln Park and the Cliff House are all accessible to Richmond and Sunset residents.

Lakeshore

Lakeshore is off the beaten path for many newcomers to San Francisco. Although it has great natural beauty, including Lake Merced, access to Fort Funston and the beaches, it sits firmly in the fog belt. There is a wide variety of housing and easy access to the freeway heading south (280 - a less congested and more beautiful route to the Peninsula than 101 to the east).

Seacliff

An upscale, quiet, and very safe residential neighborhood featuring large, elegant houses overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this area is home to Lincoln Park (golfing) and both Baker and China Beaches. Great walking and hiking trails leading to the Ocean!
